Danielle Mitchell is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) at Heritage Behavioral Health Consultants. Danielle graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Sciences and completed her dietetic internship from the University of Houston for a dietetic licensure. She then went on to complete a Master’s of Education in Counseling at the University of Houston and obtained a second licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). She is a certified Birkman Method Consultant.

Danielle enjoys integrating her nutrition expertise with mental health and counseling to help clients connect mind, body, and spirit. She specializes in functional medicine nutrition, eating disorders, pediatric nutrition, and family nutrition planning. She is passionate about providing functional and integrative nutrition options for all of her clients such as micronutrient assessments, food sensitivity testing, bioelectric impedence analysis, and stool assessments. Danielle enjoys public speaking and has provided several presentations on parenting adolescents, counseling in the nutrition setting, emotional eating, nutrition for autism, Asperger syndrome, ADD/ADHD, and weight management. She has guest lectured for counseling classes for nutrition students at the University of Houston. She hosts nutrition workshops for parents and caretakers called Feeding the Kids: Raising Happy, Healthy Eaters.

In her licensed professional counseling (LPC) practice, Danielle offers sessions in individual, couples, family therapy, and career counseling. She sees clients with a wide variety of mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, addictions, grief, adjustment disorders, and trauma. She provides parent feedbacks and coaching using the Love and Logic model for parenting and incorporating the Birkman Method Assessment. Danielle also utilized the Birkman Method Assessment for career counseling and employee development or team building.

While Danielle regularly provides counseling services as an LPC, she is also equipped for and accepting referrals for nutrition clients who have one or more of the following needs:

  • Suspected nutrient deficiencies that are resulting in physical abnormalities (i.e., autoimmune, gastrointestinal, skin, etc) and/or emotional or mental disturbances (e.g., ADD/ADHD, depression, anxiety, OCD, etc) using Specratracell Micronutrient and MTHFR assessments. Neurtraceutical and supplement planning are based on objective results.
  • Sensitivity testing to rule out or determine food, ingredient, and environmental sensitivities using the LRA by ELISA method. Elimination and challenge diet planning are based on the results.
  • GI Map Assessment for assessing microbiome status, gastrointestinal function, inflammation, and possible autoimmune connection. This may also entail neurotransmitter assessment and neutraceutical/supplement planning based on this assessment.
  • Bioelectric Impedance Analysis (BIA) for monitoring body composition, cellular fluids, and toxicity load.
  • Weight management and weight maintenance lifestyle goal planning.
  • Medical nutrition therapy for diagnosed medical conditions (e.g., CHD, PCOS, diabetes mellitus, cancer, IBS, IBD, UC, etc.)
  • Nutrition and counseling therapy for eating disorders. This includes mindful eating exposure, family therapy, and monitoring for appropriate level of care.
  • Transition towards a paleo or modified Mediterranean way of eating/lifestyle.
  • Meal planning for all of the above needs.
  • Kitchen makeovers for families and individuals.
  • Grocery store tours for individuals and groups.
  • Corporate wellness presentations and events.
  • Developing strategies for feeding kids and/or families utilizing the Feeding the Kids workshop material.
  • Public speaking on any of the above.
